Consultation on Climate Change Policy published

I welcome the publication today of the results of the public consultation on climate change policy development. I look forward to a strong engagement at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Environment, of which I am a member, with the outcomes of this process.

A total of 623 responses were recorded, and the task of the Committee will be to work with the Minister for Environment, his Department, and the NESC Secretariat on the Heads of Bill which are to be published by the end of year.

With the Doha Climate Change conference taking place in November 2012, it is a key moment for Ireland as we formulate a Bill and take legislative action to address the challenges our country and the world faces due to our reliance on carbon fuel sources which is leading to permanent changes in our climate.
